Well what’s the history behind the greatest alternative club of all time!!!!

Well its in a small town of Essex called Rayleigh and was started as a nite-club in 1976 as a glam 70s club called el-pedrinos then in 1979 it changed to the in-famous crocs [it had 2 live crocodiles in a cage] crocs started the real alternative scene on Saturday Nights and had a fantastic following in the indie world with all the punters dressed in black and punks galore they had some great customers and many from the band world like Dépêche Mode, Culture Club etc, we came along in 1982 and bought it as crocs.

We loved the Saturday nites and kept it alive we played around with the Fridays for a bit but mainly kept it alternative, in 1983-4 we changed it to the now well known Pink Toothbrush [we got the name from a very famous song  by Max Bygraves called you’re a pink toothbrush] We gave the crocodiles to Colchester zoo [we where told by the zoo that that they where alligators] we have a unbelievable staff retaining record with people being with us from day 1 until now average full time staff been with us 16 – 19 years, we must be great bosses or it’s a great place to work (or both)

We have kept the faith in our music policies and will always, we have played some fantastic live music and the bands that has played here can be seen on our band page.

We thank the staff for being fab but with-out you we are nothing
so a massive thanks to you guys

Keep the faith.... Oct 2009
